~ happy spring ~

Ahhh...springtime.  Flowers blooming, cold temps in the shade/warm temps in the sun, sweaters in the morning, tank tops by noon, allergies flaring up, beautiful blue skies, etc., etc.  To celebrate the end of winter and beginning of spring, I've decided that late 60s/early 70s fashion should make an appearance in my wardrobe more often.  Starting today.

The weather matched my mood and my outfit today!  Happy Spring!

~ 1974 ~

Am I the only one who wakes up each morning in completely different sartorial moods?  It's like I have multiple personality disorder, but for my style.  Some days I wake up feeling like a Bond girl from the 60s, sometimes it's a rebellious flapper, sometimes it's a French girl from the 1950s who drinks coffee and spends her days having picnics and looking through bookstores.

Yesterday I woke up feeling like a chill teenager from 1974 who listens to The Rolling Stones and picks wildflowers from the side of the road.

It's just too bad men don't dress like this anymore...

Today I woke up feeling like a couch potato from 2014, and my sartorial decisions definitely reflect that.

~ all stars ~

This morning I broke out my new chucks for a meeting on campus, doctor appointment, and miscellaneous errand-running.  They're perfect!  So many different ways you can wear them - with modern, AND vintage clothing.

Today I opted to wear my uniform - jeans, a black/white striped top, and my favorite Old Navy camel colored cardigan.

Next I'm gonna try these combinations:

Perfect outfit! Beige trench coat, nautical stripes, red pants and white converse sneakers.

Black dress + white Converse shoes

But I really can't wait to wear them with a vintage skirt, and sweater!

And for summer, I can see them paired with a patterned dresses and some fabulous shades:

There are so many options - perfect for someone like me, whose style seems to change daily!

~ skirting the issue ~

It's funny how every summer the idea of wearing sweaters, tights, and plaid is sickening.  Yet the minute the temperature drops below 70 (which, let's face it, is cold for Floridians) I find myself unpacking the fall/winter clothes and wearing them even if I sweat through the layers.  In Florida you learn to accept the sweat, the warm falls, freezing winters, and generally bipolar weather.  I can't count how many times I'll be decked out in my winter clothes and someone on campus will walk past in shorts and a t-shirt!  Today was a perfect example of that - low 50s in the morning, high 70s in the afternoon.  As I walked out of the grocery store, a men's soccer team walked past in shorts, and tank tops (with a few shirtless ones mixed in).  Here's what I was wearing....

{vintage bobbie brooks skirt, F21 sweater, target tights and bag, isaac mizrahi shoes}

This skirt was my mom's from the late 60s/early 70s, and I'm completely in love with it!  And the shoes?  I got them when I was eleven and they still fit.  Definitely a good investment!

Oh and if you love vintage advertising, google "bobbie brooks ads" and have fun...

This outfit will be reserved for fall-related grocery shopping (pumpkin, brown sugar and cranberries), and library visits.  Now here's a word from our favorite clothing snob!
