Happy Vintage Halloween!!

Dear readers - Happy Halloween! This year for my costume, I took the vintage approach (big surprise, right?) by transforming myself into Rosie the Riveter!

I hope everybody has a glorious Halloween!

It's Fall!

Hello folks! Well, here in Florida it's officially fall! It's finally under 90 degrees (it's hot and dry instead of hot and humid!), the leaves are changing color, we just extracted our fall honey from our beehives, and The Nutcracker is just around the corner. It's hard to believe that it was this time last year when I started this blog! When I started the blog I was going through a really hard time and I knew I needed to do something productive. This blog has really helped me by forcing be to get creative and set some goals in my life. What can I say? Blogging is like therapy - I know it's helped me a lot, and I hope you (the reader) have enjoyed it as much as I have.

On a lighter note, I've been sewing and Martha Stewart'ing up a storm lately - glittering hickory nuts, glittering shells, sewing clothes, making cards, and my latest adventure; Pottery! I started a pottery class at the beginning of this month and I've fallen in love with it! Right now I'm working on a honey pot and I can't wait to see where this new adventure takes me!

vintage, vintage, vintage

Well, school has started, textbooks have been purchased, classes have been dropped, new friends have been made and fall clothes have hit the stores! I'm most fond of the last bit of that sentence. Of course here in Florida it doesn't feel like fall yet, so wearing jeans, boots and a sweater isn't a very realistic clothing choice....at least not just yet. A while ago, when it was still summery and hot, I made several dresses out of hideous things I'd found in my closet and all I have to say is ask your mother before you rip up an old 1980's dress that's been sitting in the closet for years and years. It could be a designer dress that also happens to be pure silk (like in my case)! Oh well, what's done is done........

Two Saturday's ago I had one of those perfectly wonderful days that make you thankful for all things vintage. A breakfast of homemade biscuits and honey from our bee hives, wearing 100% vintage, dinner at Cabo's, and a big band concert with my lovely mother, my grandfather Pop and his lovely friend Helen. I have to say that I also won a bet with my sister (not being fond of vintage wear, she bet me that no one would complement me on my outfit.....I don't mean to gloat, but 4 compliments later I had in my possession exactly one dollar!).

So tonight the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah starts and I can smell the challah and the noodle kugel cooking...yummmm :)
It's been a day of ironing tablecloths, polishing candlesticks and baking carrot cake. Oh and school too..haha! This year when we have apples and honey, we'll know that the honey came from our own front yard!

I hope y'all have a joyful, vintage day - xoxo

cold water and cherries....

It's been a while since I've posted anything and I finally decided (after the usual guilt that I have when I haven't written in a while caught up to me) to save some time out of my busy day to sit down and write this post. This morning, my mother and I went to Wakulla Springs where the water is cold and the ice cream is colder! It's the perfect place to go on a hot steamy day like today. We had a picture perfect picnic (sandwiches, iced tea, cherries and grapes) a refreshing swim and a simply beautiful day. Oh and the chocolate ice cream was to die for!

I've also been doing a lot of sewing and drawing (my creativity has come back after a much hated dry spell). I have now made three dresses and two tops (pictures will come when I get around to taking some). If any of you are in a position where your creativity is somewhat laking, then head on over to newdressaday.blogspot.com and I feel sure that your creativity will be back from it's vacation in no time! I know mine is!

I've been having a lot of fun this summer - I've been dressing up in lots of vintage goodies (including a 60's bathing suit that I recently found - it's a treasure!), wearing LOTS of lipstick, re-reading all the harry potter books, spending time with family and (of course) watching film noir movies!
Here's my pink moment/summer's almost over/vintage picture of the day - enjoy it!

Hello everyone....

On this summer afternoon, I sit in my room listening to Beach Boys, enjoying the air conditioner, sipping on ginger ale, wearing a bikini and shorts, and thinking. We've finally had a break in the heat (it's now 93 degrees instead of the usual 99 or 100). I had a picture perfect weekend - on Saturday we went to an outdoor concert where one of my favorite bands was playing (The Sarah Mac Band) and then on Sunday I went to the beach with my mommy, my sister and her boyfriend! The combination of the music, the heat, the sand and the surf was certainly enough to put me in a good mood, so here's my pink moment of the day - enjoy!

Red lipstick, Billy Holiday, high heels and iced tea......

As I sit here listening to Billy Holiday sing Dancing Cheek to Cheek, I'm thinking about how there are so many people like me (tall, brown eyed, vintage, ballerina, motorcycle chick....) yet I never meet any of them.....well maybe there aren't hundreds of them...ten? Maybe six? Four? Two? Well, I guess I'll find someone, someday, I mean surely there's some guy out there who wears vintage suits and plays old records......

I've decided that for the summer, I'll try to wear a gorgeous shade of lipstick every day. Today's color is Cherries in the Snow by Revlon. It matches the theme of my day; Vintage (big surprise there!). I'm wearing a vintage top, vintage skirt, black, suede high heels, red nail polish and a vintage silk scarf......I get some pretty weird looks from people in Publix.
