Growing up, I had a plan for everything.  My college life, my career, my wedding, my children, and every birthday party up until I was 35.  Knowing this, it will be no surprise that I also had a collection of house plans, loosely drawn with a ballpoint pen on notebook paper, with double lines indicating doors and windows, and x's indicting a mix of exotic trees and shrubbery.  Although I used pink more liberally than I would now and never seemed to have enough space for a washer and dryer, my house plans really haven't changed that much.

MID.  CENTURY.  MODERN.

Sleek lines, cool hues, eye-catching details, contrasting textures.  If it's teak, I'm sold.

~ teal ~

I confess that I'm not an expert in color.  I skipped Color Theory class at school, black and black is my go-to color combo, my room was Rose Pink .01 for 12 years because I couldn't decide what color to paint it, and when I finally did paint it, I settled on white so that I wouldn't have to buy matching bed linens.  Despite this lack of color literacy , I find myself strongly drawn to different colors during different stages of my life.  Pink, light gray, orange, navy blue, and now, teal.  For those of you more proficient than I am in the language of colors, feel free to let me know what that means.

This heavy presence of color in my life, coupled with a new-founded obsession with Wes Anderson, has lead to the birth of a new project: The Interior Portrait Series.  A monochromatic study on the link between color and emotion.

In such a chaotic and transformative period of my life, I'm excited to begin a new project.  And who knows?  Maybe it will be just as good for me as any color theory class would have been.

~ 1974 ~

Am I the only one who wakes up each morning in completely different sartorial moods?  It's like I have multiple personality disorder, but for my style.  Some days I wake up feeling like a Bond girl from the 60s, sometimes it's a rebellious flapper, sometimes it's a French girl from the 1950s who drinks coffee and spends her days having picnics and looking through bookstores.  

Yesterday I woke up feeling like a chill teenager from 1974 who listens to The Rolling Stones and picks wildflowers from the side of the road.

~ thanksgivukkah ~

Happy Thanksgivukkah, y'all!!  Considering Chanukah and Thanksgiving won't fall on the same day for another 79,000 years, I say we milk it for all it's worth.

Earlier today I decorated my room for winter - I'm pretty sure twinkle lights are my favorite part of this time of year.

Trying new hairstyles is like therapy for me.  

Oh and regarding this semester...

So I will be enjoying my break from homework and counting down the days until I'm actually done with the semester!

~ weekend adventure ~

Today I went on a little trip to the country.  Where I live, the city landscape morphs into a country landscape during the span of a fifteen minute drive.  The canopy above the road gets thicker, horse pastures appear, white picket fences are all around.  And in the middle of this landscape is the most adorable shop that I can't believe I just now discovered!  Meet the Sweet South Cottage:

I met Lisa and Lizzy, who were so kind!  They showed us around the shop, talked about past events held there, plans for the future, and took us to the studio.  It was amazing!  An artist's paradise.  

The cottage sells Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, which will make you want to paint everything in your house that isn't nailed down.  Seriously.  Within the first ten minutes of being in the shop, I made plans to paint my desk, bedside table, book shelves, etc., etc.  Not to mention ripping up the carpet in my bedroom, and stenciling the floor.
