~ life in the city ~

I'm home!  I survived New York City, found plenty of vegan food, didn't get abducted, took a gazillion photos, and missed the blog terribly!  But never fear, now that I'm back in my own bed and have access to copious amounts of caffeine (and a computer) I will begin the enormous task of sorting through and posting photos and stories from my travels.

It's pretty weird to think that yesterday morning I was walking down 47th street, picking up bagels and coffee, and soaking in my last few minutes in the city.  Today I spent the majority of my time eating said bagels, and starting to unpack - my room currently looks like a war zone with books, bras, shoes, winter clothes, and ticket stubs scattered everywhere.  After five days in the city, my suitcase got significantly heavier - but that's no shock.  However, my drive around town today was.  For instance, I was in a car (and not a subway car), there was space between each building, there were soooo many trees, I had the appropriate amount of leg room, I didn't have a vice-like grip on my bag, and each destination seemed ridiculously spread out.

Since I currently can't keep my eyes open, I'll keep this brief and just say that I had the most amazing time.  This trip has changed me, given me inspiration and motivation, and I couldn't be more excited for my next trip to New York.  More details to come!

~ anchors away ~

Tomorrow I leave for New York City.  Right now I sit on the couch in my pajamas with a warm blanket and a cup of tea.  In other words, today I'm in my comfort zone and tomorrow I'll be out of my comfort zone.

I'm scared.  Not that I'll get mugged, or be abducted by a human traffickers, or not be able to find anything vegan to eat, or see Benedict Cumberbatch but be too shy to ask for a picture (okay I'm a little scared that one would happen).  I'm scared because it's my first time traveling without family.

But last night I read something that changed my perspective and made me feel comforted.

I will be fine, I will have fun, and everything will be okay.  And I will take a million photos and eat wonderful food and see best friends!  I know it.

~ just my type ~

A late-night hunt for free fonts has turned up some new favorites!  Since they're free, and you can never have too many font choices, click on your favorite one (or all of them) and download...have fun!

Just a warning though:
THIS IS HIGHLY ADDICTING.
ONLY BEGIN DOWNLOADING FONTS IF YOU HAVE LOTS OF TIME TO TRY ALL OF
THEM OUT.

You thought I was kidding about the addicting part, didn't you?  If you aren't seen by your family for a few days, or find yourself thinking about typography while you're supposed to be having a conversation with a friend or co-worker, an intervention might be worth a shot.  You can even pick out the perfect font for the invitations and host it yourself!

If you're really brave (and have massive amounts of self control) here are a few of my favorite sites.  All (or most) fonts are completely free, easy to download, and immediately available for use!
Enjoy!

~ new york, new york ~

This weekend (at a ridiculously early hour of the morning) I will be leaving for a trip to New York City!  My favorite art professor is leading a group of students (myself included) to all the best museums in the city, and even though it's a short trip, I have a million things planned.  On top of seeing the museums and galleries, I'll be seeing one of my best friends, Allison (who is going to school in NYC), eating a TON of amazing food, shopping, seeing the sights, and maybe even seeing a show!

As of today, my room is a sea of snow boots, scarves, socks, iphone chargers, bras, memory cards, hand warmers, makeup remover wipes, massive amounts of hand sanitizer, sweaters, packets of Emergen-C, and a million other things that somehow have to fit in a suitcase.

I won't have access to a laptop while I'm there, but I'll share my photos and stories as soon as I get home!  And you never know - maybe I'll even run into Benedict or Leonardo while I'm there!

~ oscar sunday ~

It's finally here: THE OSCARS!!!!  (as you can probably tell, I'm a little bit excited)

Maybe it's the deep connection I feel to the classic glamour of the red carpet, maybe it's the love I have for Benedict Cumberbatch...whatever the reason, I am unbelievably excited for tonight.  Since I lack the connections, I'm spending tonight snuggled up on the couch in sweatpants with the family, but here's what I wore for my pre-pre-pre-Oscar party a few nights ago!

And my date for this evening?

Let the countdown begin!  Who are you rooting for?
